Dieter was a typical GSG-9 agent, assigned to a rapid response counter-terrorism unit in Germany. He was part of a two fire-team unit that responded to an alarm at a secret government research facility near Marburg. Working in tandem with an XCOM detachment, the unit investigated the lab and engaged several Chyssalids in close quarter combat. His unit took the brunt of the assault, allowing the XCOM operatives time to kill the Chyssalids. The unit, however, was destroyed and Dieter was severely wounded during the course of the action. He, however, survived due to the timely medical intervention of Renee Seraphim, whom he later befriended. He went on extended medical leave, choosing to vacation in Malta near the XCOM facility. Management has noticed his interest in XCOM activities and has chosen to groom him as a potential contact within the GSG-9. His exceptional capabilities and first-hand knowledge make him a potential ally. Recently, he was suspected of surveilling XCOM operations in Australia.
